On May 21st, 2024 at prpl Summit Americas 2024 in Dallas, Texas, our EVP Global Sales, Bob El-Hawary, had the opportunity to join the App Developers Round Table with other industry leaders to discuss leveraging open source and prpl technologies for developing connected home services.
The round table discussion emphasized collaboration, standardization, and innovation as key drivers for enhancing developer support and advancing prpl capabilities in the telecommunications industry. Key topics included the following:
- Virtualized CPE (vCPE) Solution: There was interest in developing a virtualized platform for testing applications across different router configurations, aiming to enhance flexibility and efficiency in application development and testing processes.
- Developers Working Group: Participants proposed establishing a dedicated developers working group within prpl to foster regular discussions and collaborations among developers, OEMs, and chip vendors. This group would aim to improve release predictability, documentation, and overall support for developers within the prpl ecosystem.
- Cloud Integration and APIs: The discussion highlighted the need for standardization and development of cloud APIs within prpl. This initiative would seek to streamline cloud integration processes, improve interoperability between CPEs and cloud services, and manage costs effectively by leveraging containerization and high-level APIs.
- Challenges in Telco Integration: Participants shared insights into integration challenges, particularly in CRM integration and other backend systems within telecom environments. Standardization efforts were seen as crucial for simplifying integrations and reducing time-to-market for new applications.
